Why set up two-factor authentication?
Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your Mathletics account – even if someone gets your password, they can't log in without a second verification step. This significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access to your account.
2FA is currently available as an optional security feature that teachers and admins can enable from their account settings.
When 2FA is enabled, you'll need two things to log in:
- Your password
- A verification code generated by an authenticator application on your mobile device (phone or tablet).
How to set up two-factor authentication as a subco or teacher?
Before you start: Make sure you have a smartphone or mobile device where you can install an authenticator application.
- Log in to your subco or teacher account and navigate to My Account.
- In the Security Settings section, select Configure Two-Factor Authentication (2FA).
- Install an authenticator application on your mobile device if you do not already have one. Supported applications include:
- Microsoft Authenticator
- Google Authenticator
- FreeOTP.
- Open the authenticator application and scan the QR code displayed on the 2FA setup page.
- The authenticator application will generate a 6-digit verification code.
- Enter the verification code into the 2FA setup field.
- Provide a device name to identify the registered authenticator device.
- Click Submit to complete the setup process.
Once your verification code is confirmed, two-factor authentication is now enabled on your account.
How to login to Mathletics with two-factor authentication?
When 2FA is enabled, logging in takes two steps:
- Go to the login page and enter your email address and password as usual
- Click Log in
- You'll be asked to enter a verification code
- Open your authenticator application and find the 6-digit code it's displaying
- Enter this code into the verification field
Click Log in
Important to know:
- The code changes every 30 seconds – make sure to enter it quickly
- If the code expires – If you don't enter the code before it changes, just use the new 6-digit code that appears in your authenticator app
- The code only works once – each code can only be used for one login
Can I disable two-factor authentication?
Yes. You can disable it at any time through the same Security Settings section you used to set up 2FA. However, we recommend keeping 2FA enabled to help protect your account and keep your information secure.
What if you lose access to your authenticator?
If you change your phone, delete your authenticator app or lose access to your device, you won't be able to log in with 2FA enabled.
You'll need to contact Customer Support to regain access. They can disable 2FA on your account so you can log in again and set it up on a new device.
